First wife stops MCA’s wedding, demands share of property acquired together

MCA George Nyachae’s wedding was stopped by his first wife.

A woman who stopped Kemera Ward MCA George Nyachae’s wedding in Nyamira last weekend wants mheshimiwa to share the riches they acquired together.

Janet Mogoi Omwamba rushed to court on Friday and successfully stopped the politician’s wedding with his new sweetheart Pamela Akinyi.

Mogoi wants the first time Member of County Assembly to first commit before the court the plans he has for their son who is in college and share the property they acquired before moving in with his new wife.

In the order dated December 11, 2019, the court issued an injunction, restraining Nyachae or any of his partners, pastor, priest or registrar of marriages from contracting a marriage with Pamella Akinyi before the dissolution of the marriage registered on April 9, 2000, between Mogoi and Nyachae.

Talking to reporters immediately after the wedding was stopped, Mogoi said she would only allow the wedding to take place after she is officially divorced.

She said what she wanted was a share of the property they acquired when they were living together.

She said their love story blossomed when they started off as hawkers in a kiosk within Kisii town’s central business district where they sold biscuits, sweets and other fast-moving consumables.

“I had just graduated from college when we got married and we were living a very modest life but full of love and good future dreams,” she said.

“As far as the law is concerned, he is still my legal husband until after he has successfully divorced me,” she insisted.

On the colourful day, the entire County Assembly of Nyamira had converged at Kerongo Catholic Church in Manga, where the wedding was to be solemnised by Father Lawrence Atambo Nyaanga.

Some of Nyachae’s colleagues were also in the bridal party, dressed in tan suits and in high spirits to support their own as he walked down the aisle.

The man of the day was dressed in a navy blue suit, a white shirt and red tie like his best couple.

After the court order was served to the clergy, they all retreated from the temporary altar and left in a huff to avoid any embarrassment.

Guests at the wedding were, however, treated to a meal afterwards.

The bridal party did a mock wedding procession in song and dance but the bride was not unveiled.
