Kasarani taxi driver accused of strangling wife for leaving him with child until late

He was also charged with the offence of malicious damage of a mobile phone valued at Sh13,000.

A taxi driver has been accused of strangling his wife and dipping her phone in water after she allegedly arrived home late.

Joseph Kariuki Ndungu is alleged to have assaulted his wife Lydia Wakongu Muthoni on November 26 at their home in Hunters within Kasarani Sub-County.

He was also charged with the offence of malicious damage of a mobile phone valued at Sh13,000.

Police said Muthoni had left their child in the care of her husband to attend a wedding, but overstayed and came home at 10pm.

An angry Kariuki is said to have grabbed Muthoni’s phone, smashed it before dumping it in a drum full of water. The court heard that he then grabbed her by the neck, injuring her.

Kariuki denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh10,000. The matter will be heard on April 2, 2020.
