She plays big in the Yoruba genre of Nollywood, even when she is not of Yoruba descent. Faithia Balogun-Williams compares favourably with her contemporaries in this sphere of the entertainment world nay acting, and she has proved her worth.
She has to her record over hundreds of flicks she has appeared in and is still trudging on, but she has never featured for once in an English movie, which has kept many wondering, to the extent that many among the Yoruba theatre practitioners lament of her being ignored by their English movie counterparts.
But for Faithia Balogun-Williams, she has been quite lucky in that regard, because unlike many of her colleagues, many English movie scripts have been coming the way of Fathia, but she copiously rejects them because she believes that the English movie films waste a lot of time on location.
Faithia disclosed this much to a close friend that she prefers to work on Yoruba movie locations, because, within three days or even less, she would have been done with shooting, but in the English sectors, they spend several days and weeks on locations, as the case may be.
It was gathered that she doesn’t like to spend more than three days on location, the reason she rejects many English movie scripts that come her way.
In 2016, she became the richest Yoruba female artiste in the Nollywood, after she acted as a frontline star in a movie titled Shola Arikusa, which she was paid gross two million naira to shave her head bare to play the topmost role in the flick.
She was born in Ikeja in February 1969. Her ancestry is from Okpara, Delta State.
She attended Maryland Primary School and Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School in Lagos state, where she obtained the West African School Certificate before she proceeded to Kwara State Polytechnic where she received a diploma certificate.
She was formerly married to fellow veteran Nollywood actor, Saheed Balogun, with two lovely kids, and has starred in, produced and directed several Nigerian films over the years.
Interestingly, Fathia and Saheed were married for six years both actors who are birthday mates, are each other’s love interest in the movie which is currently being shot at various locations in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
14 years after she partway with her Nollywood actor ex-husband, Saheed Balogun, the couple both featured together for the first time in movie titled ‘Aje Oja’.
This beautiful and talented actress is known for her dynamism and versatility in delivering the interpretation of her roles perfectly on set and she has featured in over 200 movies since her debut few years ago.
In 2008, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for the Most Outstanding Actress Indigenous and her movie, Iranse Aje, won the Best Indigenous Film of the Year.
In April 2014, she again won the Africa Movie Academy Award, having emerged the best actress of the year alongside star actor, Odunlade Adekola, who emerged Best Actor of the Year.
Faithia Balogun also won the Best Indigenous Language, Yoruba award for the work done in the film Iya Alalake at the 2015 Africa-Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards AMVCA.
